Orthodontic Treatment
Retainers are custom-made appliances worn after braces or aligner treatment to hold teeth in their corrected positions. Without retainers, teeth naturally try to shift back (relapse). Retainers are a lifelong commitment to your smile.
Anyone who has completed orthodontic treatment. Both fixed (wire) and removable retainers are available depending on your case.
Initially worn full-time for a few months, then only at night. Dr. Shah will recommend the right type of retainer for your case.
How long do I need to wear retainers?
Initially full-time for a few months, then nighttime only. Dr. Shah recommends lifelong nighttime retainer wear to prevent teeth shifting back.
What types of retainers does Dr. Shah offer?
Both fixed (bonded wire) retainers and removable (Hawley or clear vacuum-formed) retainers are available. The right type depends on your case.
My teeth have shifted after old braces — can retainers fix this?
It depends on the degree of shift. Minor relapse may be correctable with retainers alone; more significant movement may require retreatment. Dr. Shah will assess and advise.
